this is the view from a roadside lookout just south of Port Douglas, where we have been for the past three days. it is much nicer here. small town with a LONG and beautiful beach. i haven't taken any pictures yet, because i have been very busy looking for a job and for a place to stay. i got a temporary job, washing dishes for a swanky restaurant, it's nothing special, but it is nice to finally be making money instead of spending it. no nes on an apartment yet though. i'm living in a tent (down by the river, gordie !) with sam. it's pretty fun, it is part of this hostel (Douggie's), we got a weekly rate (yes, it is overpriced), it has electricity and a porch, beds on wooden frames. it is quaint. tonight will be our first night in it. yeah, so i'll take some drool-worthy beach pics soon enough. just to drive up the jealousy factor, i want to let you know that i went for a jog on the beach today and when i had worked up a good sweat, i jumped in the 25 degree, light blue water to cool off. mmmmmmm, refreshing.

Ah wow, that sounds great! so u r trying to keep in shape ! and I guess the old gamy leg is much better if u r able to do some jogging on the beach, r u still doing push-ups to make your arms real strong for the future surfing... we keep wanting to ask u : how is your leg, so I guess it is all better by now., I am glad.
Anthony had guessed you would be going to Port Douglas, he had figured it out on internet and was expecting news from you being there, hope u find accomodation u like, but this arrangement of yours sounds pretty much fun, ever so different, have fun washing dishes, remember this past winter u were saying how relaxing it was and sort of therapeutic to be washing the dishes, eh eh , apparently it pays very well according to my source of info, I was chatting on MSN yesterday with Gabriel and asked him if he had any news from u, and he told me u had called him and he was so impressed to be talking to you all the way down there, he was very touched that u called him, it is so nice for me to hear of u 2 sharing so much together even though u r worlds apart.
thanks for all the news and pics,
speak to u soon, much love, nicole

i'm jealous.... i hit the beach this weekend here in the Seto Inland Sea for a race (swim-run, we're team smith: matt will swim the 1km and i'll run the 8km)... here's what we have to look forward to: about 3 years ago at this beach a dead body washed up, last year while matt was swimming he got his hand stuck in the belly of a dead squid type fish thing... whatever it was, it stank. YEAH, i know. gross. beaches on the inland sea are filthy and the people here don't care enough to clean them up... there doesn't seem to be much garbage where you are alexi! i'm hard pressed to find even a clean beach, a spotless one in japan is virtually impossible. ! but... there's a 5 bath hot spring spa complete with sauna and all the bubble jets you can imagine across the street from the campsite we'll be camping at this weekend... small blessings ;)

Hi! Glad to run into your blog 'cuz I liked your photos! I love the nature, especially the ocean, but I liked all your photos(the prints of a rose are cool, too). Need some time to look through all the photos, I'll come back here again. Thanks! :)
