we finally made it to Cairns, 2000 kms and four days of constant driving later. unfortunately Cairns sucks. first of all, there is no beach accessible from city centre, and the beaches in the suburbs just aren't all that pretty or vast. yes, we have become beach snobs. god, i can feel all of you hating us now. sorry vince. secondly, it is a gross resort town, populated with dumb americans speaking too loudly, the ever so-present german tourists and many many swedes. what i am saying, is that there were no aussies to be found. the atmosphere was just bad. it was like montreal when the grand prix comes to town, but ALL THE TIME. and everything is overpriced. but, most importantly, no beach. so we stayed two nights and headed north, to Port Douglas.

run for your life when u hit these ugly spots and people! but the great barrier reef would attract exactly this type of crowd, that I am not surprised of.
