Monkey Mia is a nature reserve within Shark Bay. Dolphins have been coming by everyday since the 60's, when they discovered that fishermen were throwing out all the good fish bits. Soon thereafter, humans started visiting the area so they could see the dolphins and get a chance to feed them. Back then, you could buy a bucket o' fish for like 3 bux and just feed feed feed. Aren't we humans so smart ? I can just imagine Joe Ozzie, beer in one hand, bucket in the other, throwing fish around and tryin' to get his "missus" to snap a good shot of the whole ordeal. I suppose poor old Joe misses "the good old days". Nowadays, after realizing that we were changing the dolphins' natural behavior (they stayed in the bay and never went out to sea...), the dept. of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) has taken control and the dolphins are only fed a certain amount. Doesn't it sometimes seem like all we ever do is make up for errors made in the past ?
